Rising Leaders

Requirements: Rising leaders is for delegates who are entering Year 11 or 12 in 2020 (or equivalent age).

As a current or upcoming leader, it’s crucial to have a clear understanding of Christian leadership from the Bible. You will grow in your own Christian character & convictions which will set you up well for a lifetime of Christian service. You will reflect on your own Christian story and develop skills and confidence in sharing your story with others. By the end of the week, you will have started your own personal training plan to continue your development as a leader.

Strand One

Choose between Children's Ministry or Youth Ministry Stream

Requirements: Delegates must either have completed Year 12 (or be of equivalent age) or delegates must have previously completed Rising Leaders.

Strand One will develop your skills in reading, understanding & faithfully teaching a New Testament (NT) passage. You will be introduced to the NextGen model, which provides a clear & simple model of organising your thoughts & staying on track. You will understand the importance of considering the content & context of a passage to arrive at a ‘big idea’, which will then shape any implications from the passage. As part of the training process, you will have the experience of working through a set passage with your strand group and preparing a project to present to your training group.

Delegates in the Youth ministry Stream might present a youth Bible study.

Delegates in the Children’s Ministry Stream might present a Bible talk for children.

Strand Two

In Strand 2, the focus is on reading, understanding & teaching a passage from the Old Testament (OT). You will develop skills in Biblical theology, considering how a passage fits within the whole biblical story, as well as gain confidence to understand the OT in light of Jesus. You will build upon the NextGen model introduced in Strand 1 to develop your skills in faithfully handling the Word of God.

Delegates in the Youth Ministry Stream might present a youth Bible study.

Delegates in the Children’s Ministry Stream might present a Bible talk for children.

Strand Three

Requirements: Delegates must have completed Strand Two and have completed Year 12 (or be of equivalent age).

NB: Modules can be completed in any order.

Module A (Understanding & teaching Biblical topic): Develop your systematic skills so that you can effectively pull together what the whole Bible has to say on a particular topic. Along with your trainer you will have the opportunity to work through the topic of social justice to understand this process. You will then have the opportunity to pick your own topic to explore with the guidance & encouragement of your trainer. On the last day of NextGen, you might have the opportunity to present your findings to the rest of your training group.

Module B (Giving a Bible talk): Building upon Strands One and Two, delegates will learn a straightforward method for preparing a talk that is grounded in a particular passage from the Bible. The skills learnt will be applicable to many different contexts such as youth group, school chapel, a small group, ministry workshop, etc. No previous experience in giving a Bible talk is necessary. On the last day of NextGen, you might have the opportunity to present your draft talk to the rest of your training group.
